Here we have an original 1st World War memorial made of oak and mahogany and featuring a glazed panel containing the roll of honour.
Originally located in the now-defunct Southend-on-Sea Constitutional Club, its honour roll lists all the club's members who served during WW1, with 'RIP' annotations for those who failed to return. This is a substantial piece measuring 55" x 42" x 5", and is correspondingly heavy.
Inscription reads "For King & Country, Roll of Honour to Members of the Southend-on-Sea Constitutional Club who served in His Majesty's Forces during the Great War 1914-1919" above a listing of members who served. Carved across the top and gilded it reads "1914-1919", while there is a brass plaque at the bottom which reads "Their Name Liveth for Evermore, Dedicated 9th March 1920". The roll of honour itself is done by hand and signed Fred Whisstock, whose name also appears on the roll itself.
